1 zhabs dkar tshogs drug rang grol. His name is commonly spelled “Shabkar” in English publications, but this fails to account for the difference in pronunciation between ཞ་ and ཤ་ in Tibetan, which is admittedly a rather slight difference in the Central Tibetan dialect (though still arguably important), but more strongly differentiated in those of Amdo and Kham. A more accurate rendering in accord with modern transliteration standards would be ‘Zhabkar’. The common spelling is retained here.
